Originally when I searched who Max Stirnerite was I was nervous he'd be one of those libertine types. I use libertine in a derogatory way but I essentially mean someone who's invested in the idea of freedom for the sake of pursuing illegal things - but thankfully I was dead wrong from the quotes you've given me. I think I have a bias against anarchists that I need to deal with, haha. He... reminds me of a quote from a video game. "What does freedom truly mean when demanded of you by a God?" I'd consider myself to lean more toward determinism in a sense. Our material conditions, interpersonal upbringings, and personal experiences, and other factors form who we are, as far as I know, but I may be wrong. However I myself won't consider myself to be a complete adherent because I haven't yet figured out how much of us is truly us. What do you think? I also consider myself to be a communitarian, I believe we ought to let ourselves bound by social duties and strive for collective well-being, that's the best way to improve happiness globally, but I know that there is no true moral code or universal law that demands this of anyone. Even if we cannot fully control how we end up as people that does not mean I do not believe in taking responsibility and accountability for ones actions, especially if one has had the chance to reflect and grow. Note that all of these feelings are pre-studies so, bear with me now if I sound... naive? Now, I've talked a lot about philosophy despite the fact I haven't even really studied it yet. This was a really brainteaser, thank you. I never knew about the extent of your passion for freedom aside from your anarchism and socialism. I wanted to ask a question but I couldn't think of none. Do you have any questions for me? For the sake of conversation, that is.

Your self-admission of a little bias against anarchists sparked something in me because I've historically been really passionate about communist-anarchist alliances... That's called anarchism of synthesis, you can look it up if you wish. Just a note I wanted to make. Either way, I'm very Marxist in practice. I'd say I hold Stirnerist values more philosophically, mostly because I think constructing a purely anarcho-egoist society would be impossible (at least directly). A lot of "egoists", specially in online spaces, are simply teenagers attracted by the idea of "pure freedom" that call everything a spook. Which doesn't go against the nature of Egoism at all, I'm just mentioning it because it can make it seem like a reductionist hyperbole of itself. Either way, about communist-anarchist unity -- I'd mentioned it in Tetratto, I think, but as an anarchist I'm actually (was a lot more in the past) affiliated with the Spanish Communist Party (PCE), even though a lot of them are hardcore MLs. I do not mind that because I consider, similarly to Marx, that anti-capitalist revolution will come in stages; the final of which will be anarchism, as Engels, avid collaborator of Marx, actually said himself (yes!): "State interference in social relations becomes, in one domain after another, superfluous, and then dies out of itself; the government of persons is replaced by the administration of things, and by the conduct of processes of production. The state is not "abolished". It dies out." The "withering away of the State" is an actual Marxist political concept. Most MLs nowadays seem to ignore it though or at least diminish it a lot (which I somewhat understand as it's posed as a natural process that will happen at the supposed end of a communist revolution, and attaining that revolution is more important to even get that result in the first place, but well) because a lot of them do have very notable biases against anarchists. But that doesn't necessarily need to be that way. To be honest, it's mostly like this online. When I was in the PCE (I still am somewhat, at least in terms of discussion. I'm more involved in regional pursuits and identity now though), nobody really cared. Just be careful not to end up in echochambers about that. Remeber that leftist unity is the only way for leftist liberation and success. Okay? I find just one flaw within your communitarian global notion (as I find within every other ethical notion) and that is "who marks what is ethical and what is not?" for me, any outward demonstration of externally imposed (be it socially or politically) morals and law is inherently oppressive because oftentimes it goes against freedom. It sounds reductionist but that's genuinely my thought! The question lies on whether or not people are something by nature (or not). Are we egoists by nature? Are we altruists by nature? Then let us dictamine society based on that. If we are altruists by nature, abiding by social duties for the sake of the collective does not go against our nature (behaviour, needs, wants, subconscious) and so it does not go against our freedom. Otherwise it does. If everything is truly determinist and we are entirely shaped by outside circumstances (genetics, upbringing, geographical and economic factors) then we all have different "natures" and functioning truly freely in society is impossible. That bit about Human Nature is what always really gets me. I've mostly established that we are egoistic by nature but I come back around to think of it and everytime I come out defeated. What do you think about that, regardless of my ethical dilemma? I think to solve it, anarchism is best executed at a small scale, in individual communes with their own interests. Although if we are truly egoistic by nature, I see issues arising, so I guess we're back at the start! Haha! It's tricky, isn't it? You don't sound naive, friend, you're learning. And your points are rational. I've just been very radicalised over the years and I will refute anything for the sake of debate and discussion. I'm really passionate about this indeed, and many other things of this sort, so I'm happy you've reached out! My only question I've already posed, what do you think about human nature? I know you've said that bit about determinism, but I encourage you to elaborate with confidence. smile

I've been doing fine. I haven't been active on Tetratto recently either, and I don't plan to become active any time soon. I'm typically lurking on my private over there. I plan on continuing to study my interests soon... aesthetics, anthropology, sociology, history, philosophy, politics, and socialism. I noticed a lot of these overlap with yours so I figured it would be nice to reach out to you. It'll be a lot but I've already begun planning reading materials and other activities. Sorry for the drabble I'm about to go on - but when I was younger, and albeit more depressed, I found myself attracted to Absurdism as a philosophy because I could see my own conflict within the philosophy. "Wow! Albert Camus is so me!!-" haha I'm kidding. Nowadays, it's become less of a coping mechanism for me but an intrinsic truth I hold inside me. In fact my own adherence to Absurdism and Humanism is one of the most important motivators in me studying Socialism. What do you consider yourself to be, Lorca? How do you see the nature of this world, and what do you believe humans should do in response?

That is wonderful to hear, my friend. If you ever need any study material or want recommendations, feel free to reach out to me. I'm very invested in pure Literature this year as it's consumed most of my work -- but I still dabble in Philosophy whenever I'm free. smile That bit about Camus rings true for me as well. I think a lot of people can find his notion relatable because in the end, it is true! It proves the truth of his ideals. Although yes, holding Absurdism as an ideologic truth is better than utilising it as a coping mechanism. Your questions are very thought-provoking. This year I've gotten acquainted with Lorca and his generation on a much deeper and biographical level, and I think I've assimilated a lot of his thought. That I think would be perhaps too abstract to put into words, at least in English, but I've found a lot of solace in his thoughts about death, politics and whatnot. I don't mean to go on a ramble, particularly since I don't think I could accurately describe my feelings about it in any language other than Spanish! Apologies. Aside from that, I've been reading Spinoza rather inconsistently this year and I'm... interested in his notion. It's very... determinist, which I worry about, but it's very freeing also, in a sense. It treats Ethics as Epistemology and, as a teacher, I really like that. For more politics, I've always been a very radical Stirnerite. I still am, but I'm learning to open up, and that's caused me to inevitably drift toward Spinoza (and also, Marx). The "nature of the world" is elusive to me in the strict sense. If by "nature of the world" you mean "nature of man" (or rather, pursuit of man), I'd say "freedom". Freedom is all I think, all I read, all I write. I search for it always, and I think a lof of ideologies stem from the need for freedom rather than an actual solid ideal or pursuit of something transcendentally ethical. Either way, if I had to sum my current thoughts into a sentence or two, it'd be these: "The highest activity a human being can attain is learning for understanding, because to understand is to be free." - B. Spinoza. "I love men too — not merely individuals, but every one. But I love them with the consciousness of egoism; I love them because love makes me happy, I love because loving is natural to me, because it pleases me. I know no “commandment of love.”" - M. Stirner.

Tell me something interesting you know!: lenin's wife was pretty imo lol

in the midst of the ruthless criticism of all that exists, never forget that the real movement to abolish the present state of things is paramount. Abandoning hope is antithetical to Marxism. How are you, friend?

Saturday! What a marvelous surprise. smile I'm so glad to see you. I'm doing well. I think leaving Spring sites has helped me prioritise what's important this year ‐ granted, I think I'd be too busy for them anyway. Regardless I miss you and my other friends sometimes. How are you? How is that wonderfully avid curiosity of yours? How are things over there with you all? What have you been reading lately? I hope you know I'll always be interested in catching up with you or Doc or anyone else. I'll counter-fact your fact: Did you know that Lorca became affiliated with the Association of Friends of the USSR? He developed socialist ideals after travelling to New York (way worse back then) and seeing the racism and classism. He has an entire book which is mostly dedicated to African-American culture and denouncing the cold, capitalist, racist and industrialised city that constrained it socioculturally (he mostly lived around Harlem at the time), it's called Poet in New York.

To the nice 24yo anon who sent me a message asking about Spanish-speaking writers, or anyone else who happens to come from /Lorca or /Federico: I've been all over Miguel Hernández lately and you should know about him. If you've already read my translations of his poems feel free message me and I will tell you anything you want about him or his work. Further honourable mentions that have come to my mind, still really basic but nonetheless: Rubén Darío, Luis Cernuda, Xuan Bello (RIP, Asturian writer by the way.) Have a lovely Sunday.

Hi! Stopping by to say that I've stumbled upon your rentries and I am utterly obsessed with your poetry archive! Apologies if this question seems a bit odd, specially considering that I'm a stranger, but what are some Spanish-speaking authors you would recommend? I've been meaning to read more, I've read a bit of Lorca's work previously and as for political commentary, I really like Eduardo Galeano. If it's for any guidance, my favorite author ever is Franz Kafka! 😸 And also, it's weirdly comforting to see other adults in Rentry. I am 24, and my fiancée is 25! biggrin I hope you have a lovely day!

Hi, friend! That's totally fine, I'm so glad to see other people appreciating what I do haha. I don't know if you like to read more prose or verse so I will recommend you a few off the top of my head, but feel free to ask for more later as I've been very busy teaching about much older Literature in these last school trimesters haha. - Mario Benedetti (verse). Uruguayan as is Galeano, and while he also often deals with more sentimental topics, politics isn't extent. - Eduardo Mendoza (prose, novel). Spanish. His novels are mainly crime novels, but also deal with history and politics, specially regarding 20th century Catalonia! (All his books are based in Catalonia). Some of his works may remind you of Kafka's "The Trial". These are two that I'm the most aware about at the moment as I've read their work very recently. But if you're interested, most of Spain's "Generación del '27/'98" are very nice. Miguel de Unamuno, Miguel Hernández, Antonio Machado, Rafael Alberti (<- him and his wife were very Marxist btw and I recommend reading about their personal life from a biographical standpoint), the usual suspects. Not very original, sorry! Just what I had on my mind right now. Thank you for your interest, I'm glad to find other people in their early-mid 20s as well! Have a wonderful day as well. 🤍
